Hey guys! Here in Southwest Iowa, we just saw the first snowfall of the season. To most people it’s no big deal, but to me it’s almost devastating. It means that finding good weather to ride is extremely hard. Just like today, I was begging Dad to go out and ride, but the ground is frozen with about a quarter inch of ice covering it. I say “so what, let’s ride” but he insists he doesn’t want to buy new plastic when I hit the ground or a new motor when I seize it in the cold. Hopefully when I get off the computer I can talk my dad into getting a few laps in around our home practice track. I am so motivated to win next year, I just want to ride every day and train every night. Even though mother nature doesn’t like us in Iowa during the winter, it’s my goal to ride at least once every weekend this winter.
With the down-time, we’ve been planning our ’08 race schedule, ordering new gear and parts, and tricking out my YZ. If I spend my time working on my bike like last winter, my 250 will look so pretty that I won’t even want to ride it! We have pretty much decided that we are going to race the Missouri Hare Scramble Championship series this coming season. Yamaha has good contingency for the MHSC series and the competition is stiff. It will be a challenge.
Most of my time now during the winter is spent training. My days go like this: wake up, go to school, get out of school, run halls, lift weights, go home, work on my website stuff, and then hit the stationary bike for an hour or so. That’s just an average day, I still hang out with my friends like a normal teenager. I think I have officially mastered almost all forms of extreme sports, besides surfing, which is pretty hard with no ocean. I got my friends into bmxing, so before this ice storm hit we were building jumps and hitting them. Then my friend Gabe got me into skateboarding. I finally “dropped in” on a halfpipe, so I was pretty pumped about that. Here in about a week, our local ski resort opens up, so my friends and I will be hitting the slopes snowboarding quite a bit. And of course, I can ride a dirt bike, which in my opinion is the ultimate extreme sport.
I mentioned before about my “website stuff”. I’ve started a business (hetzeldesign.net) designing and hosting websites. I would really like to get into the motorcycle industry, building websites for companies or racers. My latest site I just launched for my school’s elementary sports program (fmyouthsports.com).
So there’s an update of what I’ve been up to. Until next time, I’ll still be training every day getting ready for March 11! (Round 1 of the MHSC series.) Ride on!
